Artist's Description

This tree is one of many in Lassen Volcanic National Park that can be seen from Highway 89, though I doubt many see it. This tree is growing around 7,000'+ elevation, on the south face of one of the smaller peaks adjacent to Lassen Peak. It is perched on the hillside, exposed roots cling to rocks, and takes quite the beating every year from high winds and snow which can be 20-30' deep some winters. Possibly the most popular image I've shared on Facebook. 2014
