Though I have seen them in the Summer, Winter is the best time to see a solar pillar, created by super fine ice crystals refracting the setting sun's rays. This one took place in early 2016, and was quite spectacular.

I have lived in Plumas County since 1977. It is a place so steeped in nature and wildlife, that every day, every view, is a photographic opportunity.
